GRB Update -- GRB Lead Vocalist ties the knot

Well, time does catch up with people, and no matter how much we try to run away from it, the strings of marriage do catch up with us someday. This has just come true with one of our front man, Lead vocalist for GRB our man Pranay da. Pranay da just tied the knot last month on a small and private event which was held for a few chosen family members (and band members of course) only. Thankfully the hounding eyes of the paparazzi were no where to be seen. And all the guest and family were treated to a great private moment. Not to mention a sumptuous dinner, and a round of great music thanks to our eternally active guitarists, Sovit and Nishant. The tunes were further complemented by the voices of our great singers, the groom himself, and other singers like Miss Anisha of the “Chiso Batash” fame and our very own bassist, yours truly, who takes every opportunity he gets to bore all the people around with his screeching. Our drummer Rahul was missed, as he could not make it to the occasion as he was out traveling. Overall, it was a great private moment, with a great magical air around it. A very close and personal experience, for all the family members and the band members as well. We the GRB wish Pranay da and his newly wedded wife a happy married life.

Cheers…

Welcome Prashantee :)

Working on our Original Compositions is what GRB ultimately strives for. And thanks to a team contribution, we have come up with 3-4 OC's. Although not technically complete, working on these OC's is and will be our prime objective.

So keeping these in mind, we asked our long time friend, Prashantee Singh, to initially help us with our words. And being the every helpful person that she is, Prashantee was always helping us with our words, our lyrics. So finally, it was Anant who invited her to join the band as the official lyricist of GRB. And luckily for us, Prashantee agreed.

So here's welcoming our official lyricist, Prashantee Singh to the GRB family. May the influx of words begin!

GRB Update - Lineup Change

The story so far:
Sometime in October, we had to part ways with Zoe, who was handling our lead guitars and the vocals departments..well, he had personal commitments and thus this step for him. It was a huge setback, and along with Zoe went the original composition "Around the corner" we'd been playing as "our" own, as it had been penned and composed by Zoe.

In the meantime, around the same time, we also rented a one room near Outer Ring Road as our independent jam-pad. Also, Anant invested in a new Stranger Cube 20 and a second hand Behringer UB802 8 - Channel Mixer for the benefit of all of us! That was the good news for the band.

Vineeth, well, although never officially communicated (from his side or ours), but due to his personal commitments to his other projects he never really could give enough time to GRB and sadly, we had to bid adieu to him.

Vineeth and Zoe - You guys will be missed.

And now the updates:
Filling Zoe's absence was always going to be tough. And this time we decided on taking two different people for the two different roles - one for the vocals and one for the lead guitars.
We found our vocalist in Pranay Adhikari (we call him "Pranay Da"). He's my senior from school, was my senior in college as well, and this guy breathes music. His database of music and its history is vast, he plays the guitar awesome (hear him play Clapton's Layla) and sings even better! We requested him to join, and he hopped on to the bandwagon instantly! Well, good for us!

It took an even longer time to find the lead guitarist. In the meantime, it was the four of us (Anant, Pranay Da, Sovit and me) jamming away, gelling and getting to know our musical selves better.

Nishant Rai (or Kaaley Bhai, as he's affectionately called) was someone with whom Anant and me had jammed a long time ago, in BTM. The dude's amazing with the guitars - even with a Givson electric and a Stranger distortion, he does wonder (read "Train of consequences", "Symphony of destruction", et al). Anant and I always wanted him to join us, but due to his MBA preparations at that time, he'd declined. This time, I mailed him as I didn't have his phone number and got a response after almost 3 weeks. He was in.

So people, please welcome Pranay Da and Kaaley bhai to the GRB family. The new lineup is yet to do it's first jam (should happen this weekend), but trust me, it's a great feeling to finally have got the lineup work done.

Welcome aboard, fellas! Time to rock!

Performance at Inter College Festival (18-Oct-08) cancelled

It's very unfortunate that we had to cancel our performance for this Saturday. We were all set to perform at Ranga Mandir, Bangalore for an Inter College Festival to be held on 18 October. And we were practicing really hard for that at our usual practice place, the Unwind Center, Koramangala.

However, Zoe, our lead guitarist and singer, fell on his bike while on the way to practice today and injured his left forearm. Pretty seriously.

Being the music enthusiast that he is, Zoe was still willing to practice tomorrow and perform on Saturday, but on discussing further we decided that it was best to let him rest his arm for a couple of days so that the injury heals better. Besides, the organizers of the show and our point of contact Kunal would also want us to be able to give 100% in the performance. After all, it's their show and they're the ones paying so it should be worth the money for them too. And we agree to that whole heartedly, Kunal.

So keeping all those things in mind, we decided to not perform on Saturday.

Kunal - Dude, apologies again. Next time definitely. And we will give you a better performance than what we'd planned for this one.

Wishing Zoe a speedy recovery.
